brachioplasty

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

This procedure targets the loose, hanging skin on the upper arms that commonly remains after major weight loss or with natural aging.

  • What it Addresses: The surgery removes a vertical strip of excess skin and fat from the inner aspect of the upper arm, between the armpit and the elbow, to create a more toned and proportionate contour.
  • The Ideal Candidate: You should be at a stable weight but troubled by skin laxity that doesn’t improve with exercise, often called “bat wings”. Good skin elasticity in other areas is not a predictor for the upper arms.
  • Hospital Stay & Recovery: An overnight stay (1-2 nights) is common. A compression garment must be worn consistently for several weeks to minimise swelling and support healing. The scar runs along the inner arm. Heavy lifting and strenuous arm activity must be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
  • Realistic Expectations & Key Information: The scar is permanent and visibleon the inner arm. While it is placed in the most concealed location, this is a key consideration. The procedure improves contour but does not significantly change the underlying arm muscle tone.

FAQ

The primary goal is to remove excess skin and underlying fat. Liposuction may be combined.

The scar runs from the armpit to near the elbow on the inner arm. It is visible but placed in the least conspicuous area.

Initially, yes. You must avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for 6 weeks to protect healing.

For 6 weeks full-time, then possibly during the day for another few weeks to control swelling and support skin.

Scars fade over 12-18 months. Silicone gel sheets or massage (once healed) can significantly improve their appearance.

The goal is a smoother, more proportionate arm contour. The appearance should be natural, though the scar is present.

Yes, for asymmetry. However, it is common to operate on both for a balanced result.

After most swelling subsides in 2-3 months, with final scar maturation taking up to 1-2 years.
